STYLE STALKING FROM THE MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS #getyourfreakon

Looking for some outfit inspiration of late? Well more often than not there’s no better place to start searching than stars strutting their stuff on a red carpet, and the MTV VMAs last week were the perfect place for some style stalking!!

I tuned in early to catch the red carpet arrivals with Taylor Swift in eye-catching Christian Louboutin & Lorraine Schwartz, FKA Twigs, looking her ultra-quirky self in Sophia Webster, Gigi Hadid simply cool in Tom Ford & Lizzo in a crazy Moschino frock were a few favs! And what about Missy Elliott looking way cool and effortless in GUCCI!!! Missy was this year’s recipient of the Video Vanguard Award and belted out one hell of a 12 minute medley of her musical brilliance from the past decades. Between the dancing, music & staging it was hands down the best awards performance I’ve ever witnessed - and I’m still wondering how some of the special effects were possible!!

Sure these looks are designed for the stars to shine, but if you let the styles marinate in your mind for awhile, you can draw a little inspiration to incorporate into your look on your own terms! I’m already thinking Gigi’s pants teamed with a simple tee could be a look that I’ll love for Spring, and I love a kimono style duster & FKA Twigs had on an amazing one!! . Even though I don’t have a formal event to wear it aka FKA Twigs style, I can totally play one right down with my faded mum jeans for casual dinner date!

As the awards progressed I was enthralled by the out-of-this-world performances as well as the cutaways of the music elite in attendance; you can really see a fashion snapshot caught in time. It really is a NO RULES landscape and makes me wonder if pretty soon there will be the death of major trends, traded away for a more individual take? What will drive fashion when the urgency to have that latest trend is taken away?? I am all for embracing the creativity, and so at the end of the day if you like the look, and you like the way you feel in it, then GO FOR IT!!
